August 18, 1587: Born in the Roanoke Island colony, Virginia Dare becomes the first child born to British parents in the American colonies. Four years later, Virginia Dare would be found standing in the middle of the mysteriously empty settlement, saying “What? I didn’t do nuthin’.” Those who made their way to the lost colony, commented on the fine crop of corn around Roanoke.
